| Obverse description | Three-quarter length bust of Antinous facing right, bare-headed, with characteristically full, curling hair rendered in the idealising Hadrianic style. The effigy is depicted without drapery visible, presented in the distinctive youthful, slightly melancholic manner associated with posthumous portraits of the deified favourite. The Greek legend ΒΕΤΟΥΡΙΟϹ, identifying the magistrate Veturius, appears in the field. The flan is irregularly shaped and the surfaces show typical patination of a provincial bronze issue. |
