Miletopolis was a minor Mysian city of little strategic weight, its coins struck not by imperial directive but by local civic initiative — one of dozens of small Asian mints producing bronze for hyperlocal exchange during the Antonine period. The conventus of Cyzicus grouped these communities administratively, but each retained the right to issue small bronze independently, a privilege that survived well into the third century.
Provincial issues of this scale rarely traveled far. Most circulated within the city's immediate territory before disappearing into the ground.
