| Obverse description | Draped bust of the personified Roman Senate (ϹΥΝΚΛΗΤΟϹ) facing right, rendered in the conventional provincial portrait style with drapery visible at the shoulder. The effigy is depicted with a veiled or turreted head, as was customary for the personification of the Senate on provincial coinage of Asia Minor. The circular legend ΙΕΡΑ ϹΥΝΚΛΗΤΟϹ, meaning 'Sacred Senate,' runs around the periphery of the field. The strike is typical of provincial hammered bronze coinage of the Hadrianic period. |
