| Beschrijving keerzijde | The civic abbreviation ΚΥ/ΖΙ, standing for Κυζικηνῶν (of the Cyzicenes), is inscribed in two lines within the central field, enclosed by a circular oak wreath whose leaves and acorns are rendered in relief. The wreath, a symbol of civic honor and of Zeus Olympios to whom Cyzicus had a notable cult, frames the abbreviated ethnic legend. The reverse field is otherwise plain, with no additional symbols or exergual inscription. The overall design is characteristic of the simple civic coinage struck at Cyzicus under the conventus system during the reign of Hadrian. |
