| Obverse description | Radiate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Emperor Gordian III facing right, seen from the rear in three-quarter view, with the radiate crown prominently rendered. The portrait is enclosed within a beaded border, with the Greek imperial titulature disposed around the periphery of the field. The workmanship reflects the provincial Greek civic mint tradition of Pontus, with bold if somewhat coarse die cutting characteristic of the Amastrian series. |
