| Beschrijving keerzijde | Central field depicts a crescent set atop a filleted or decorated conical stone (baetyl) resting on a stepped or moulded base, representing the sacred cult object of the moon-god Sin worshipped at Carrhae. Two military signa (standards) flank the central device, one to each side, each adorned with wreaths or roundels. The reverse legend ΚΑΡ ΚΟΛωΝΕΙΑ ΜΗΤΡΟΠ encircles the design, proclaiming Carrhae's status as a Roman colony and metropolis. The composition reflects the city's dual identity as both a Roman colonial foundation and a centre of ancient Semitic religious tradition. |
