Additional information

Rabbath-Moba, the Nabataean city absorbed into the Roman province of Arabia Petraea after Trajan's annexation in 106 AD, struck civic bronzes under its own name well into the third century. Issues under Elagabalus are among the scarcer products of this mint — his four-year reign generates far thinner provincial series than his predecessors, and Rabbath-Moba itself was never a prolific source. The ΑΡϹΑΠΟ abbreviation in the legend renders the city's name in its Greek form, a linguistic remnant of Hellenistic administrative practice that persisted long after Roman political control was total.
