Ancyra in Galatia — modern Ankara — served as the administrative hub of the province under the Flavians, and civic bronze issues like this one were struck under the authority of local magistrates rather than the imperial mint. The magistrate name encoded in the obverse legend, Asklepiades, is otherwise unattested in the numismatic record for this city, making the die sequence associated with this officeholder unusually difficult to place chronologically within Domitian's fifteen-year reign.
