| Description du revers | Zeus Aezanites standing left, clad in himation, holding a long sceptre or staff in his left hand and extending his right hand toward a small eagle perched at his feet. The figure is rendered in the traditional Hellenistic manner with a commanding, frontal torso and head turned slightly. The encircling Greek inscription in the field names the local magistrate Menelaos Demosthenes and the civic ethnic of the Aezanites. The type reflects the city's celebrated association with Zeus, whose great temple at Aezani was one of the best-preserved in Asia Minor. |
