Obverse description Laureate head of Emperor Claudius facing right, rendered in the Roman provincial style typical of Alexandrian coinage. A lituus (augural staff) appears to the right of the imperial effigy. The surrounding Greek legend names the emperor in full titulature, distributed around the periphery of the flan. The portrait displays characteristic features of Claudius, with a broad neck and stylized laurel wreath. The flan is irregular in shape, as is common for hammered bronzes of this series.
