| Additional information |
Amisus held a privileged status under Roman rule — the city retained its freedom (eleutheria) granted originally by Caesar and confirmed by successive emperors, allowing it to strike its own civic bronze well into the imperial period. The date ΕΠ inscribed on this piece refers to year 85 of the local Amisene era, anchoring it firmly to 53–54 AD under Claudius, whose reign saw active consolidation of Pontic civic administration following the annexation of Polemon II's kingdom in 64 BC's aftermath.
