| Beschrijving keerzijde | Zeus Laodiceus, the principal civic deity of Laodicea ad Lycum, depicted standing to the left in a long chiton and himation. In his extended right hand he holds an eagle, while his left hand rests upon a tall sceptre. The figure is set within a dotted border and surrounded by the civic legend ΛΑΟΔΙΚΕΩΝ ΤΟ ΠΗ, the latter element (ΠΗ = 88) denoting the sequential number of the local civic era, confirming a date of 216–217 AD. The treatment of the deity reflects the well-established iconographic tradition of Zeus as protector and patron of the Laodicean community. |
