Aezani, a Phrygian city whose prosperity rested heavily on its sanctuary of Zeus, was among the communities that issued bronze coinage in Caligula's name during his short reign. RPC I 3079 is a civic bronze — locally produced, locally circulated, and entirely dependent on municipal initiative rather than imperial directive. The city had strong reasons to advertise loyalty; Phrygia's elite were deeply invested in the imperial cult network, and a new emperor meant a new round of honorific positioning.
Caligula was dead by January 41, giving this type a production window of under four years.
