| Beschrijving keerzijde | A dolphin leaping to the right occupies the central field, its arched body rendered in moderate relief, with an aplustre — a decorative stern ornament evoking maritime symbolism — depicted above or behind the creature. The encircling Latin legend, distributed around the periphery, records the names and collegial authority of the two issuing magistrates together with the senatorial authorization formula EX D D (ex decreto decurionum), attesting that the coinage was struck by decree of the local senate. The combination of dolphin and aplustre is a well-attested iconographic pairing in Sicilian civic bronze coinage, alluding to the maritime character and colonial identity of Tyndaris. The flan is irregular and the surfaces display heavy wear and encrustation consistent with extended circulation. The relief is somewhat flattened, though the main design elements remain distinguishable. |
