Gaius Masonius Rufus served as duovir at Apamea during the Augustan period, one of the local magistrates whose names appeared on provincial bronze issues as a mark of civic responsibility — and, not incidentally, a public advertisement of status. The Phrygian city of Apamea held significant administrative weight within its conventus, functioning as a judicial assize center where Roman provincial authority met local Greek civic tradition. These magistrate-named bronzes are the primary documentary evidence we have for several of these officials; no other record of Masonius Rufus survives.
