Obverse description Bare head of the emperor Augustus facing right, rendered in the classical Hellenistic portrait tradition. The effigy displays naturalistic facial features with short hair swept forward, characteristic of Augustan provincial coinage. The Greek legend ΣΕΒΑΣΤΟΣ (Sebastos, the Greek equivalent of Augustus) is partially visible in the field. The flan is irregular in shape, typical of provincial bronze issues struck at Hierapolis in the late 1st century BC.
