Tabae was a minor Carian city whose civic coinage under Antoninus Pius reflects the administrative reorganization of Asia Minor following Hadrian's restructuring of the conventus system. The city fell within the Alabanda assize district, meaning legal and financial matters — including, arguably, the authorization of local bronze issues — were adjudicated there. Small bronzes of this type rarely traveled far from their issuing city, which is precisely why surviving examples tend to show heavy local wear.
