| Reverse description | A griffin stands in profile facing right, its eagle's head and folded wings rendered in the distinctive Smyrnaean civic tradition, while its left forepaw rests upon a wheel — a type closely associated with Nemesis, the tutelary goddess of Smyrna. The creature's leonine hindquarters and raised tail are depicted with characteristic provincial vigour. The encircling legend in Greek names the local magistrate or benefactor responsible for the issue's dedication. The reverse field is plain, and the design occupies the full width of the flan. |
