背面描述 Zeus Lydios depicted standing to the left, his figure rendered in the conventional civic type of Phrygian provincial bronzes. He holds an eagle perched on his outstretched right hand and a long sceptre in his left. The Greek legend ΤΙ ΚΛ ϹΑΚΕΡΔΩϹ ΑΡΧΩΝ, naming the local magistrate Tiberius Claudius Sakerdos as archon, is distributed around the field. The coin's surface carries a dark brown patina with areas of earthen encrustation consistent with prolonged burial.

附加信息

Colossae, once a significant Phrygian city on the Lycus River, had faded considerably by the Imperial period — Strabo writing that it had shrunk to a small town by his time. The archon named on this coin, Ti. Kl. Sakerdos, belongs to a class of local magistrates who used bronze civic coinage partly as a form of personal advertisement, funding issues to cement standing within their community. The Conventus of Cibyra grouped several such diminished Phrygian cities under a single judicial circuit, and coin-issuing rights within it were exercised sporadically, making dated civic series from this grouping relatively thin.
