Reverse description Cista mystica depicted in the field, its lid half-open to allow a serpent to emerge and creep to the left — a canonical Dionysiac cult symbol closely associated with the mysteries celebrated at Pergamum. Behind the cista, a thyrsus (or possible thyrsus-like object) is faintly visible. The reverse type reflects the strong Dionysiac religious tradition of Pergamum and is a common reverse motif on the city's autonomous and imperial provincial coinage. The ethnic legend ΠΕΡΓΑΜΗΝΩΝ appears in the field, identifying the issuing civic authority.
