| Reverse description | Cult statue of Artemis of Ephesus (Artemis Ephesia) depicted standing, facing, in the canonical hieratic pose with arms extended and supported by lateral struts; the goddess wears a kalathos (cylindrical headdress) and her body is adorned with multiple rows of oval protuberances in the traditional manner. A stag stands on each side of the goddess, flanking the central figure symmetrically. The scene reflects the venerated cult image housed in the Temple of Artemis at Ephesus, rendered in the standard provincial die-cutting style of the Conventus of Ephesus. The reverse legend naming the local magistrate Claudius Meliton is inscribed around the periphery. |
