Dorylaeum, a mid-sized Phrygian city on the road between Nicaea and Synnada, struck this bronze during Titus's tenure as proconsul of Asia — a post he held under his father Vespasian, whose consolidation of Flavian power following the chaotic Year of the Four Emperors gave provincial mints renewed political reason to flatter the imperial family. The honorific ΙΤΑΛΙΚΩ ΑΝΘΥΠΑΤΩ places Titus explicitly in his proconsular role, which is notably distinct from his later identity as emperor.
