Beschrijving keerzijde A galley prow oriented to the right occupies the central field, rendered in typical provincial style with oar banks visible along the hull. Corn ears are depicted above the prow, symbolizing the region's agricultural prosperity, while a dolphin swims rightward beneath the hull. The civic legend of Coela encircles the design, referencing the municipium. The composition reflects the maritime and agrarian identity of this Thracian port city.

Aanvullende informatie

Coela was a minor Thracian city on the Hellespont, and its civic bronze coinage under Septimius Severus belongs to a burst of provincial minting activity that followed his victory in the civil wars of 193–197 AD. Cities across Thrace and Asia Minor issued locally in copper partly to fill gaps left by disrupted central supply, and partly to court favor with a new dynasty still consolidating power.

The Moushmov reference places this among a small, poorly-documented group. Die links within the Coela series remain understudied.
