| Obverse description | Laureate head of Emperor Septimius Severus facing right, portrayed with characteristic short beard and strong facial features typical of Severan provincial coinage. The obverse legend in Greek characters encircles the imperial effigy, reading Λ ϹΕ ϹΕΥΗΡΟϹ Π, abbreviating the emperor's titulature. The flan is irregular and the strike somewhat worn, consistent with provincial bronze coinage of the period. The portrait is rendered in a stylized local manner characteristic of Ionian civic mints of the early third century AD. |
