| Obverse description | Laureate bust of the emperor Nero facing right, with drapery visible at the shoulder. The effigy is rendered in the provincial style characteristic of Carian civic coinage of the Julio-Claudian period. A Greek legend encircles the portrait in the field, reading ΝΕΡΩΝ ΣΕΒΑΣΣΤΟΣ, the misspelling of ΣΕΒΑΣΤΟΣ (Augustus) being a noted die-cutter's error on this issue. |
