Obverse description Laureate bust of the emperor Nero facing right, with drapery visible at the shoulder. The effigy is rendered in the provincial style characteristic of Carian civic coinage of the Julio-Claudian period. A Greek legend encircles the portrait in the field, reading ΝΕΡΩΝ ΣΕΒΑΣΣΤΟΣ, the misspelling of ΣΕΒΑΣΤΟΣ (Augustus) being a noted die-cutter's error on this issue.
