Aanvullende informatie

Lampsacus, positioned on the Asian shore of the Hellespont, had been a strategically valuable city since antiquity — its harbor controlled passage between the Aegean and the Propontis, a fact that earned it favor from successive powers including the Athenians, Persians, and eventually Rome. Coinage from the city under the conventus of Adramyteum is relatively sparse, and issues attributable specifically to the final year of Marcus Aurelius's reign narrow the field considerably.

Marcus Aurelius died in March 180 AD at Vindobona, on campaign against the Marcomanni.
