| Reverse description | Artemis, the principal deity venerated at Hierocaesarea, depicted standing and facing right in a dynamic hunting pose. The goddess reaches her right hand back over her shoulder to draw an arrow from the quiver carried at her back, while her left hand holds a bow. The figure is rendered in a style consistent with Anatolian provincial coinage of the Antonine era, reflecting the city's close cultic association with Artemis. The ethnic legend ΙΕΡΟΚΑΙϹΑΡΕΩΝ (of the Hierocaesareans) is inscribed around the reverse field, identifying the issuing civic authority. |
