| Obverse description | Radiate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Emperor Macrinus facing right, presented frontally, set within a beaded or laurel wreath border. The emperor's radiate crown and military paludamentum are rendered in the provincial style characteristic of Mesopotamian civic coinage. The encircling Greek legend reads ΑΥ Κ Μ Ο Ϲ ΜΑΚΡΙΝΟϹ, identifying the ruler by his imperial titulature. The overall style reflects the conventions of the Edessan civic mint, with bold, somewhat schematic modelling typical of eastern provincial bronzes of the early third century AD. |
