The standards' shafts display typical Roman decorative elements. The reverse legend ΝΙΚΑΙΕΩΝ, meaning 'of the Nicaeans', is disposed around the field, identifying the issuing city. The type is characteristic of the civic bronze coinage struck at Nicaea under Gordian III. |
