| Obverse description | Radiate bust of Emperor Gordian III facing right, with drapery visible on the left shoulder. The radiate crown, a hallmark of imperial Roman iconography, is rendered with pronounced rays. A Greek legend encircles the effigy, identifying the emperor by his full titulature. The portrait exhibits the youthful features characteristic of Gordian III's official coinage. The flan is irregular, typical of provincial hammered bronze issues from the Edessa mint. |
