| Descrizione del rovescio | Asclepius, the god of medicine, depicted standing facing with head turned to the left, clad in himation draped over the lower body, his weight supported by the knotted serpent-staff (the caduceus of Asclepius) held in his right hand, around which a serpent coils upward. The figure is rendered in the provincial Greek tradition characteristic of Troas civic bronzes of the early third century AD. The ethnic legend ΑϹϹΙΩΝ, identifying the mint city of Assus, is distributed in the field to left and right of the standing deity. |
