Additional information

The Magnetes of Thessaly — not to be confused with the coastal Magnetes of Asia Minor — operated as a regional federation whose autonomous bronze coinage under the Flavians reflects a degree of civic identity Rome generally tolerated in Greek communities with credible historical pedigree. Domitian's reign saw increased pressure on provincial elites to demonstrate loyalty, yet civic bronze continued largely undisturbed across Achaea and Thessaly throughout his principate.
