Domitian's eleventh regnal year in Egypt (L ΙΑ) corresponds to 91–92 AD, but the dating of Alexandrian bronze issues from this reign is complicated by the Egyptian calendar's offset from the Roman. This piece falls within a period when Domitian was tightening imperial control over provincial coinage, having already standardized much of the eastern mint output in the 80s. The Alexandrian mint itself operated under the prefect of Egypt, entirely outside the Roman senatorial structure — a closed monetary system that accepted no outside coin and exported none.
