Cyzicus was one of the most prolific civic minting authorities in the Roman East during the Antonine and Severan periods, but its workshop is particularly noted for idiosyncratic letterforms that appear across multiple issues — the Ζ rendered with horizontal serifs so pronounced it reads almost as the Japanese katakana エ, a quirk specific enough to function as a die-shop signature. This isn't damage or wear; it's a consistent engraver's habit.
