| Obverse description | Turreted and draped bust of Cybele Sipylene facing right, her distinctive mural crown with multiple turreted battlements clearly rendered in the Anatolian tradition. The goddess is depicted with flowing drapery over the shoulders, consistent with the iconographic conventions of the Sipylene cult image venerated at Smyrna. The Greek legend ϹΙΠΥΛΗΝΗ appears in the field, identifying the deity as the Sipylene manifestation of the Great Mother. The die engraving, though worn, reflects the provincial Greek style characteristic of Ionian civic bronzes of the Antonine period. |
