| Obverse description | Bare head of Emperor Claudius facing left, rendered in the provincial Greek tradition with naturalistic portraiture. The imperial effigy displays characteristic features including a broad forehead and short cropped hair. The circumferential legend ΘΕΣΣΑΛΩΝ ΣΕΒΑΣΤΗΩΝ runs around the portrait in the field, identifying the issuing authority as the Augustan Thessalians. The flan is slightly irregular, typical of Thessalian provincial bronze coinage of the mid-first century AD. |
