Beschrijving keerzijde Zeus Laodiceus depicted standing left in full figure, holding a small eagle perched in his outstretched right hand and a long sceptre in his left. The deity is rendered in the conventional provincial style of Phrygian civic coinage, with a circular Greek legend surrounding the type in the field. The reverse inscription records the city ethnic and the neokorate count, reflecting Laodicea's civic pride and religious identity. The execution is typical of Severan-period provincial bronzes from the Conventus of Cibyra.

Aanvullende informatie

The "ΤΟ ΠΗ" in the reverse legend denotes the city's neokorate count — an honorific awarded by Rome recognizing a city's right to maintain an imperial cult temple. Laodicea ad Lycum accumulated these titles aggressively during the Severan period, and this coin was struck right at the end of Caracalla's reign, likely before news of his assassination on the road to Carrhae in April 217 reached the Lycus valley mints.
