| Obverse description | Bare-headed, laureate bust of Emperor Caligula (Gaius Caesar Germanicus) facing right, draped at the shoulder, rendered in the provincial Greek style. The legend ΓΑΙΟϹ ΚΑΙϹΑΡ ΓΕΡΜΑΝΙΚΟϹ surrounds the effigy, distributed in the field and along the periphery. The portrait displays the characteristic sharp features and short hair of Caligula's early imperial coinage. |
