| Beschrijving keerzijde | Apollo standing facing right, clad in a long chiton, holding a kithara (lyre) in his left arm and plucking its strings with his right hand. The god is depicted in a static, hieratic pose typical of Phrygian civic bronze coinage of the Augustan era. The encircling Greek legend ΑΡΤΕΜΩΝ ΚΟΔΡΟΥ ΙΕΡΑΠΟΛΕΙΤΩΝ, naming the magistrate Artemon son of Kodros and the civic ethnicon of Hierapolis, is distributed around the figure in the field. The reverse design reflects the strong association of Hierapolis with Apollo, a principal deity of the city. |
