| Obverse description | Bare head of Augustus facing right, rendered in the idealized Hellenistic portrait style characteristic of early Imperial provincial coinage. The emperor's fine facial features, wavy hair, and youthful countenance are visible, consistent with Augustan iconography adopted by eastern Greek cities. The Greek legend ΣΕΒΑΣΤΟΣ ('Sebastos', the Greek equivalent of 'Augustus') is partially visible in the field to the left of the portrait. The flan is slightly irregular, as is typical of hammered provincial bronze issues of this period. |

| Reverse description | Apollo standing facing right, clad in a long chiton, holding a kithara (lyre) in his left arm and plucking its strings with his right hand. The god is depicted in a static, hieratic pose typical of Phrygian civic bronze coinage of the Augustan era. The encircling Greek legend ΑΡΤΕΜΩΝ ΚΟΔΡΟΥ ΙΕΡΑΠΟΛΕΙΤΩΝ, naming the magistrate Artemon son of Kodros and the civic ethnicon of Hierapolis, is distributed around the figure in the field. The reverse design reflects the strong association of Hierapolis with Apollo, a principal deity of the city. |
