| Beschrijving keerzijde | A stag standing to the right, rendered in profile with characteristic antlers, the sacred animal of Artemis of Ephesus and a principal civic emblem of the city. Above the stag, a quiver is depicted in the field, further referencing the cult of Artemis Ephesia. The surrounding Greek legend, distributed across the field, names the local magistrates responsible for the issue: the grammateus (secretary) Memnon, the city abbreviation ΕΦΕ (for Ephesus), and the name Zopyrion. The type is entirely consistent with the Ephesian civic bronze coinage struck under Augustus. |
