Year 16 of Antoninus Pius's reign was an administratively quiet moment in Roman Egypt — no revolt, no flood crisis, no exceptional event to mark it. Alexandria's mint ground out bronze for daily transactions across the nome system, and pieces of this module circulated heavily through the markets of the Delta. The survival rate for small Alexandrian bronzes in collectible condition is notably poor; the alloy used in mid-Antonine issues was prone to pitting and granular corrosion in Egypt's saline soil conditions.
