| Beschrijving keerzijde | The bearded river-god Glaukos reclines to the left in a languid, semi-recumbent pose typical of Greco-Roman personifications of rivers and water deities. He holds a long reed in his extended hand and leans his elbow upon an overturned water-urn from which water is implied to flow, symbolizing the local river. The reverse legend identifying the deity and the civic authority of the Hierocaesareans is distributed around the field. The composition follows the established Hellenistic iconographic convention for river-god types found across Asia Minor provincial coinage. |
