In her right hand she extends a patera over a small lighted altar set before her, while her left arm cradles a cornucopia, symbolizing abundance and harmony. The reverse legend, partially uncertain, reads ΕΠΙ ϹΤΡΑ ΤΡΥΦΩ?ΝΟϹ ΠΙΤΑ, referring to the local magistrate (strategos) Tryphon and the city of Pitane. The composition follows the standard typology for Homonoia reverses in the civic bronze coinage of Mysia during the Antonine period. |

Pitane was one of the smaller coastal cities of Aeolis, situated near the mouth of the Caicus River, and retained enough civic pride under Roman rule to strike local bronze on the authority of a named magistrate — here, a strategos whose name survives only partially on the die. The truncated ethnic ΠΙΤΑ rather than the full ΠΙΤΑΝЄΩΝ appears on issues of this type, a compression that suggests either a small die or a local engraving convention specific to this mint.
