Obverse description Bare head of Marcus Aurelius, with short beard, facing right, rendered in the provincial Greek style characteristic of Pontic civic coinage. The curly hair is depicted in some detail despite moderate wear. The circumferential Greek legend ΟΥΗΡΟϹ ΚΑΙϹΑΡ (Verus Caesar) runs around the field, identifying the portrait as Marcus Aurelius in his capacity as Caesar under Antoninus Pius.
