| Reverse description | Hygieia, goddess of health, standing facing left in full figure, clad in long chiton and himation. She extends a patera in her right hand toward a serpent coiling upward to feed from it, while her left arm supports the serpent's body. The encircling Greek ethnic legend ΑΜΑϹΤΡΙΑΝΩΝ occupies the field around the figure, attributing the issue to the city of Amastris. The reverse type reflects the widespread veneration of Hygieia in Pontic civic coinage of the Antonine era. |
