| Description du revers | Standing figure of Isis in full frontal pose, head turned to the left, depicted in long, flowing robes in the Egyptianizing style commonly employed on provincial bronzes of Asia Minor. She holds a sistrum raised in her right hand and a situla (sacred bucket) in her lowered left hand, attributes emblematic of her role as a fertility and mystery goddess. The Greek ethnic legend ΚΥΜΑΙΩΝ encircles the type, identifying the coin as an issue of the Cymaeans. The relief is worn but the iconographic details remain identifiable. The coin reflects the widespread veneration of Isis throughout the eastern Roman provinces during the 3rd century AD. |
