Reverse description A griffin seated to the left, rendered in the Hellenistic artistic tradition characteristic of Alexandrian provincial coinage, with its right forepaw resting upon a wheel. The griffin, a hybrid creature with the body of a lion and the head and wings of an eagle, was a well-established divine attribute associated with solar and chthonic symbolism in Egyptian-Greek religious iconography. The regnal date legend L Κ appears in the field, denoting the twentieth year of Trajan's reign. The flan is irregularly struck, with the device somewhat worn but the main type discernible.
