Alexandria Troas was a Roman colony — formally Colonia Augusta Troas — established by Augustus and granted the rare privilege of ius Italicum, meaning its land was treated legally as Italian soil, exempt from provincial land tax. This status gave the city's coinage an unusual civic pride visible across the entire series. Trajan Decius, who ruled just two years before dying at the Battle of Abritus in 251 fighting the Goths, was among the last emperors to receive a substantial colonial bronze series from this mint before the city's output collapsed entirely in the third-century crisis.
