| Beschrijving voorzijde | Bare or laureate bust of Trajan facing right, rendered in the provincial style typical of the Conventus of Adramyteum. The emperor's effigy occupies the central field, with the truncation visible at the base. A partial Greek legend runs along the periphery, much of which is lost to the coin's irregular flan and heavy patination. The portrait exhibits the characteristic strong jaw and short-cropped hair associated with Trajanic provincial coinage of Asia Minor. |

Dardanus was a small coastal polis on the southern shore of the Troad, significant mainly as the site where Sulla and Mithridates VI negotiated their peace in 85 BC — an agreement that ended the First Mithridatic War and left Asia Minor's Greek cities to face savage Roman reprisals for having supported the Pontic king. The town's own civic coinage under Trajan is extremely sparse, reflecting a community of modest means operating within the administrative reach of the Adramyteum conventus.
